African black soap bar
An amazing fairtrade soap from Togo, West Africa, made by women's cooperatives from wildcrafted and sustainably grown shea butter and palm kernal oil using a special saponification process.
The black colour is a result of the soap-making process which uses the ash of dried banana leaves and bark from a local tree (also harvested sustainably).
The soap has a very mild scent and rich, creamy lather leaving skin moisturised and soft. In Togo, African black soap is the only soap used by mums to wash their newborn babies because it is so pure. Reputed to help clear acne and combat rashes and eczema-prone skin. Also excellent as a mild moisturising shampoo to promote scalp health.

How to keep your soap at its best
African Black Soap absorbs water easily, so keep your bar on a soap dish and allow to dry between uses otherwise it will end up very squidgy! This soap is softer than commercial soaps so it is easy to slice a piece of the main bar when using as a shampoo bar. As this is a pure product, you may get the occasional grain of grit in it , so rub it into your hands first, rather than straight on the body, to avoid being scratched!
