luffa washing up scourers
At last, a sustainable product to help scrubbing those dishes!
I was musing the other day that I missed the little foam washing up pads but couldn't find a green alternative. You can imagine my delight when I stumbled upon these luffa scourers. They soften up in hot water to be flexible enough to get into cups and crockery and are gentle enough to use on non-stick surfaces or fruit and veg.
For removing really stubborn dirt I wrap one of these in the mesh bags that you get with onions or oranges; the mesh really helps to shift the baked on grime. Plastic nets from peanuts are even better!
Ethically and sustainably grown on a farm in the Philippines, these scrubbers are 100% natural and have an abaca fibre hanging loop. They're long lasting too; each luffa can last up to 12 months if cared for properly.
Even better, the set of three comes in a pretty hand-made abaca fibre bag that you could use to hold gifts after use.
- ethically and sustainably grown luffa
- natural product so size and shape may vary
- hanging loop to help air drying
- softens slightly in warm water
- can last up to 12 months
- bought directly from the farm at a fair price
- purchasing supports less privileged families and prevents environmental degradation
- very light to transport - saves fuel

- Biodegradable - compost after use
Rinse and air dry by hanging them up or wash in the dish/clothes washer.
Ethical, natural, chemical-free, organic (awaiting certification), biodegradable.
In the Philippines, luffas have been used as washing-up scourers for generations. The luffas are grown as a vegetable for use in stir fries and stews. The farmers allow some luffas to go to seed for the following season’s crop. Once the seeds are removed from the core, the remaining luffa is cut up and used as a scourer.
